CJM is Committed to Raising Funds for Diabetes Research

Each spring for the last 12 years, a team representing the planners, staff, clients, family and friends of CJM Wealth Advisers, Ltd. has sponsored Griff's Gang in Northern Virginia's Walk to Cure Diabetes benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF). Thanks to the continued generosity of so many, our team has been able to raise more than $70,000 toward this worthwhile cause!

Along with many of you, several members of our CJM family have a personal connection with diabetes, a disease which affects millions of children and adults every year. As you may already know, our team is named for Griffin Baker, the 23 year-old son of Tracey Baker (one of our owners) who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1996. Griff, a graduate of George Mason University, is thriving while living with diabetes and maintaining his health.

JDRF is a leader in setting the agenda for diabetes research worldwide, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of type 1 research. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children and adults suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its devastating complications. The CJM family is proud to support this effort and looks forward to the day that we no longer need to walk for a cure.

CJM Lends Support to Those Impacted by Tragedy

During the weekend of November 10, 2012, one of CJM's planners, Parker Trasborg and his girlfriend traveled up I95 to their hometown in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Monmouth County is at the northern end of the Jersey Shore and a large part of the county was hit hard by the storm on October 29th. Their time there was spent volunteering in the area helping those that have lost everything. It was a very humbling experience helping people rip down the walls in their homes and throw away all of their ruined belongings.

Around our office, CJM collected a full car's worth of clothing, food, and supplies to take up to New Jersey. All of the items were donated directly to those in need in the towns of Union Beach and Highlands, NJ.

The outpouring of support has been tremendous, although there is still a lot to be done. The storm was a terrible tragedy and the rebuilding process will take time, but it is being done with the help and support from those all across the country and around the world.

CJM is involved in Building Our Profession

The Planners of CJM have been committed to supporting our professional association, The Financial Planning Association (FPA) on a local and national level since the Association's inception. In fact, three of our owners (Tim Jones, Tracey Baker and Brian Jones) have all served as presidents on the local chapter and one has worked on a number of committees and initiatives for the national organization. On top of their efforts for the organization, our planners have volunteered for a number of community outreach initiatives through FPA such as Financial Literacy on Capital Hill, Junior Achievement teaching, financial counseling talk shows through the local media and regular volunteer counseling through Our Daily Bread. Finally, CJM is financial supporter of the Foundation for Financial Planning. The Mission of the Foundation for Financial Planning is to help people take control of their financial lives by connecting the financial planning community with people in need. They achieve this by supporting pro bono advice and outreach activities.
