How CNBC builds the list
CNBC started with 41,578 registered investment advisory firms and narrowed the field to 1,015 that met its requirements and passed a due diligence check, including a review of any regulatory disclosures. Firms don’t apply or pay to be considered. CNBC then ranked those firms with a methodology developed with data provider AccuPoint Solutions. The factors include years in business, regulatory and compliance record, number of employees and investment advisers, assets and accounts under management, and the number of states where the firm is registered, and CNBC checks firm data against SEC filings.
